ℹ️ E-commerce Terms & Conditions — Legal background

UK online retailers are bound by the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, which give consumers a 14-day right to cancel most online purchases and return goods for a full refund. T&Cs must be provided before the order is placed.

  • 14-day cooling-off right for most online purchases (Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013)
  • Must provide certain pre-contract information before purchase
  • Consumer Rights Act 2015: goods must be satisfactory quality, fit for purpose, as described
  • Return postage: business must inform consumer who pays before purchase
  • Digital content: different rules apply — no automatic 14-day right for downloaded content once unlocked
